The Art of the HotWing started at the age of 9 for Owner Billy Richmond. Billy’s father taught him the basics of quality service and quality food. His father has been serving wings to the memphis public for over 20 years.
Billy Richmond was a star freshman and sophomore basketball player in college. Billy played Collegiate Basketball at Vanderbilt University and The University of Memphis.
Billy was cooking for his teammates & coaches, when then coach john calipari was so impressed with his wings, that he told his friend and hall of fame coach larry brown about billy’s cooking. From that point, He knew he had something special.
Playing basketball professionally overseas allowed billy the opportunity to travel and try all types of foods from across the world. After his basketball career ended, billy started a commercial business in the downtown dallas area in 2014. Billy was able to parlay that huge success into bigger and better opportunities for The wing guru. he started a food truck in 2015 in orange park florida (which is still going strong).
The wing guru came home to where it all began, opening his first location in Memphis at 5699 mt. moriah rd. The wing guru has exceeded expectations, recently winning the orange park statewide hot wing festival grand championship in florida. They won most creative sauce for their honey suicide at the santa anita hot wing cook-off, and recently were named the #6 hot wing restaurant by the wing experts. In 2017, The wing guru became the official hot wing partner of the memphis tigers, his alma mater.
The wing guru mission is to provide the best food in the country. Which is cholesterol free and gluten free. Our chicken is prepared naked and fried to perfection.
Our signature flavor, honey suicide, will not be found anywhere else. It has a kick of hot & sweet taste that will make you crave more. The wing guru has flavors that range from garlic sriracha, spicy taco, wet seasoned, honey zing, lemon pepper hot, we even have non sauced wings for those who like their wings dry. Memphis dry heat is a mix of Cajun & dry rubs.
They are also famous for gourmet Burgers that are made with pure ground beef, freshly made never frozen. Our Memphis style wings are where sauce & season meet. Only Memphians know the real on this. Out of towners get hooked because most wing places only use dry rub or an individual sauce, not combined. Nashville has its Nashville hot, Memphis has the Memphis style honey suicide sauce.
